Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease, is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. In its milder form, dengue fever can lead to high fever and flu-like symptoms, while the more severe form, known as dengue hemorrhagic fever, can lead to severe bleeding, shock and even death. Every year, millions of people around the world contract dengue fever, with Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific Islands, Latin America and Africa being the most affected regions. Although dengue fever predominantly occurs in these areas, it is now spreading to new regions, with local outbreaks reported in parts of Europe and the southern United States.
The Newfoundland Dengue Test is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of dengue virus NS1 antigen in human serum, plasma or whole blood. It is intended as a preliminary test to aid in the diagnosis of dengue virus infection.
