Ovulation describes the release of an egg from the ovary, which lies ready for fertilization in the fallopian tube. Within 24 hours of its release, the egg must be fertilized by sperm in order for pregnancy to occur. Prior to ovulation, the body produces a large amount of luteinizing hormone (LH), which triggers the release of a mature egg from the ovary. This LH surge usually occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle. The Newfoundland Ovulation Test is a home lateral rapid test.
