A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of the urinary system, including the ureters, bladder, urethra and kidneys. Usually, the infection affects the lower urinary tract, i.e. the bladder and urethra. Women have a higher risk of developing urinary tract infections than men. Infections that are confined to the bladder can cause discomfort and irritation. However, if a urinary tract infection spreads to the kidneys, it can lead to serious health problems.
The Newfoundland UTI test is a home lateral flow test for the detection of leukocytes and nitrites in urine to determine the presence of a urinary tract infection.
